We’re proud to partner with the WA Cricket Foundation to bring fun, connection, and opportunity to our local community – Kwinana.
Recently, Rhodes Park in Calista came alive with the energy of 18 young girls, laughter, and the unmistakable sounds of cricket. The “come and try” event provided an afternoon filled with cricket drills, icy poles, and pizza, creating the perfect environment for school holiday fun.
WA Cricket Female players Mathilda Carmichael and Taneale Peschel joined the session, introducing the girls to batting, bowling, and fielding skills.
The event, supported by TLEA as a Community Partner of the WA Cricket Foundation, was designed to encourage young girls to get outside, stay active, and connect with their peers and local community.
WA Cricket’s Women & Girls Participation Specialist Tayla Tenaglia commented on our partnership, highlighting the importance of supporting young females in sport:
“Thanks to TLEA’s partnership with WA Cricket Foundation and the donations they provide, we can run more of these events and programs, so we can support the local communities by getting more girls involved,” Tenaglia said.
The impact is already visible, with growing participation in cricket across the south metropolitan area and increased engagement with local community clubs.
For 10-year-old Aurora, the event was a memorable experience for her and her sister.
“My favourite bit so far has been when we have taken turns throwing the ball and being able to be a wicketkeeper,” she said. “I like playing backyard cricket where I like to be a batter, so it was fun to do other things today.”
TLEA’s support also extends to initiatives beyond the field. Through the WA Cricket Foundation, programs like Social Leaders – a leadership program for girls in schools – use cricket as a vehicle to empower young women.
“We deliver a whole range of programs in the Kwinana area,” Tenaglia explained. “It means we can get into areas that we probably wouldn’t target otherwise and can resource them appropriately and support girls as best we can.”
TLEA is committed to creating opportunities and strengthening the communities we work within. Supporting programs like this aligns with our values of distinction and innovation, helping to build a brighter future for the next generation.
